Alameda has over 6,000 reported AIDS cases. The population in this large diverse urban area has over 229,000 African Americans, 8,000 Native Americans, 68,000 Chinese, 52,000 Filipino, 13,000 Japanese,13,000 Korean and over 5,000 Pacific Islanders (Polynesian, Hawaiian, Samoan).
