MARIN COUNTY   Marin County is located just across the bay from San Francisco. The Marin County Department of Health & Human Services coordinates several community based agencies to provide prevention education. The County has a population of over 240,000 with 385 reported HIV and 1,607 reported AIDS cases. Activities include targeted prevention throughout the county, small group presentations in settings such as the county jail and substance abuse treatment facilities, as well as individual and group level interventions and Partner, Counseling and Referrals Services for HIV+ individuals. There is also a Syringe Access program with 14 participating pharmacies. The HIV/AIDS Services program also is the primary provider of HIV testing, which includes testing outreach to high risk target populations with a mobile van program.

Program Description:
The HIV/AIDS Services Program coordinates several community-based agencies to provide prevention education to the high-risk populations of men who have sex with men, substance users, including active injection drug users, and HIV positive individuals. Activities include targeted prevention throughout the county, small group presentations in settings such as the county jail and substance abuse treatment facilities, as well as individual and group level interventions and Partner, Counseling and Referrals Services for HIV+ individuals.There is also a Syringe Access program with 14 participating pharmacies. The HIV/AIDS Services Program also is the primary provider of HIV testing which includes testing outreach to high risk target populations with a mobile van program. Its Specialty Clinic offers medical care for low income individuals and clinical drug trials for persons living with HIV in Marin County.

Program Description:
Marin's primary education/prevention provider targets highest risk populations and community youth through programs and services. Marin Life serves gay/bi men through forums, events and targeted prevention. The Point Program provides to active injection drug users through county jail, drug treatment, targeted prevention and weekly needle exchange sites. Communities of color receive culturally appropriate education through the Entre Hombres (Latino) program. Youth reach program recruits/trains 60+ peer educators each year providing education at adolescent treatment centers, juvenile hall, and throughout local schools. Women at risk are also served through forums. MAP coordinates Marin's Positively Speaking program as well as a community AIDS resource library.

The Marin Life Plus program provides targeted prevention, individual, and group level interventions to HIV+ individuals.
