Pasadena lies northeast of downtown Los Angeles at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains . The "City of Roses" is bordered by a family of close-knit communities that include Altadena, Glendale, Alhambra, Sierra Madre, Arcadia, South Pasadena, and San Marino, to name a few. The city encompasses 23.2 square miles of suburbs, foothills, industrial areas, business districts, and the beautiful Arroyo Seco Canyon . The Health Department's grant-funded AIDS programs include services that range from community prevention education to a comprehensive HIV/AIDS care clinic.
