SANTA CRUZ COUNTY   According to the 2000 census, Santa Cruz County has a population of approximately 255,602.  While Whites comprise the largest racial group (75%), the number of Latinos (26.8%) has been growing in recent years. Approximately 1% of the population is African American and 3.4% is Asian. The Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency serves the residents of Santa Cruz County, a diverse community with the city of Santa Cruz in the north, the city of Watsonville in the south, and surrounding agricultural land.  The number of persons in Santa Cruz County living with AIDS going into the year 2006 was 242, or approximately 42% of all persons ever diagnosed with AIDS.  Men who have sex with men (MSM) remain the risk category of most persons diagnosed with AIDS in recent years (69%). The second highest mode of transmission is a tie between injection drug use (IDU) and IDU in combination with MSM (IDU/MSM). 
LHJ   In our LHJ, we have the following:  HIV/AIDS Surveillance, Surveillance Coordinator, Education and Prevention Department, E&P Coordinator, Neighborhood Intervention Geared Towards High Risk Testing (NIGHT), NIGHT Coordinator, HIV Counseling and Testing Department, C&T Coordinator, Medical Case Management for HIV/AIDS, and Federal Title III Clinic Care.

The services provided by our LHJ are as follows:  AIDS/HIV Medical Case Management, Federal Title III Clinic Care, HIV Counseling and Testing, HIV/AIDS risk reduction counseling for high-risk negative and HIV+ individuals (Education and Prevention), Community Planning, and Sexually Transmitted Disease Services.  We also staff a Latino, MSM support group (E&P) and organize an annual retreat for MSM in which various issues are discussed.
