Located just below Oregon, Siskiyou County is the home of a 14,000 foot volcano. Mt. Shasta is one of the largest volcanoes in the Cascade chain, covering 100 square miles, and a destination area for many interested in the outdoors. This rural county offers some of the best climbing, skiing, rafting, hiking and fishing in the state. Siskiyou County has recorded 45 HIV/AIDS cases, with an overall population of 40,000. |

Program Description:
Plumas County serves as the fiscal and administrative agent for a Five County HIV Education and Prevention Project which includes the counties of Lassen, Modoc, Sierra, Siskiyou, and Plumas. Ten subcontracts provide HIV Education and Prevention services to underserved and high risk rural populations in the region.

Program Description:
Community college students are trained as Peer Educators who provide classroom presentations on campus and in local schools. Persons living with HIV/AIDS are included as guest speakers at campus HIV awareness events. HIV antibody testing is offered on campus. An accredited AIDS Awareness Class is taught by the Project Coordinator and Peer Educators.
